Cell Phone Contracts

Cell Phone Contracts - Don't Get locked Into A long Term Deal

Most people think that when they go shopping for a cell phone that the latest model is the best one to get. In reality it is the cell phone contract that is more important. If you don't have the right cell phone plan you will probably over pay. No one I know wants to do that and I am sure you don't either.

It makes no sense to have the best cell phone on the planet if your plan is not the right one for your usage habits. You can get a contract with 100 minutes a month but if your calling habits are 120 minutes a month you will pay extra usage charges for every minute you are over. This can get quite expensive as hey charge around 65 cents a minute usually.

It would be better to get a plan for 150 minutes a month. You may be able to get away with a cheaper plan if you make most of your calls on nights and weekends when minutes are usually free. Check with the plan to see before you get it.

Another thing you want to watch out for is the length of the contract. Since they made it a law that you can keep your cell phone number if you switch plans the phone company wants to lock you in. It is not in your best interest to get locked in.

Most cell phone companies want to lock you into a two year deal. While some people don't mind this there are others that would never sign such a deal. These are people that like to upgrade their cell phone a lot.

I use Verizon nationwide plan with a two year contract. Since I don't need all the bells and whistles and stuff like Bluetooth that come with a new phone. Actually my LG Vx4500 has Bluetooth capabilities I just don't use it. My plan is good for two years which I don't mind but that's just me.

I am sure once my contract runs out I will upgrade to a Blackberry or maybe a Palm Treo 650. I have a new every two deal which means Verizon gives me $100 off my cell phone upgrade every two years. This is a big deal for me because the newest Hybrid/Pda cell phones are quite expensive. Having $100 off is a big factor for me to have.

Do your self a favor and read the contract before you sign anything and ask if there is a trial period before you buy a phone. There is usually a 14 day trial on most plans. If they tell you different that is not a store or company you want to deal with in the first place.
